Painting with Acrylics Short Course
Course description
Course overview
On this course, you will investigate and develop the full potential of modern-day acrylic paints and the incredible variety of mediums and colours available. This will be done by physically exploring the possibilities and methods of paint application through making paintings of different genres, using a variety of approaches and techniques. Life Painting, Landscape, Still Life and Abstract genres will be included to aid this investigation.
You will learn how to make decisions about your personal preferences for applying colour and material selection for different genres by exploring the properties of acrylics.
Who this course is for
This course is suitable for anyone aged 18 and older, wishing to switch from oils to acrylic painting, or wishing to learn about the vast variety of paints and mediums available within the acrylic range.

Materials
- A selection of primary acrylic colours
- Earth colours
- Acrylic retarder
- Acrylic flow medium
- Acrylic pouring medium
- Four small canvasses or boards (approx. 40cm x 50cm)
- Palette knife
- White palette (for mixing paints on)
- Brushes (a variety of different sizes)
Other materials will be advised during the course.
Tutor
Henry Gibbons Guy
Henry Gibbons Guy teaches drawing and painting at The Drawing School and Central Saint Martins and he is an associate lecturer on Central Saint Martins' BA Graphic Design course. He studied BA Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art, moved to London for 2 years study at The Prince's Drawing School. Henry worked as The Drawing School's printmaking technician for two years and Lead Tutor on their Young Artists Programme.
Tommy Ramsay
Tommy Ramsay is an artist based in London. His practice includes painting, screen printing, casting and collage. He has studied at UAL Chelsea and the Royal College of Art. He currently teaches at Camberwell College of Art on the Painting course and also runs the Life Drawing classes. You can see Tommy's work here:Â
