Course overview

This exciting short course is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of bespoke tailoring. A tailoring apprentice will take 7 years to perfect their craft, so perhaps you want to have a taste before you commit or just understand more about this complex and secret industry.

The course will combine some practical making exercises and will be taught by expert tutors from our degree programmes.

Who this course is for

This course is suitable for anyone interested in tailoring. Having some basic sewing skills is an advantage. However, learners will be given machine inductions, demonstrations and guidance along the way.

Tutor

Alice Osanai

Alice Osanai graduated from Wimbledon School of Art with a BA in Costume Design. Following this she completed the Savile Row pre-apprenticeship program at Newham College in East London. In 2007 she apprenticed at Kilgour on Savile Row. During several years of intensive training, she learnt all the traditional hand sewing, pressing and tailoring techniques that go into crafting a Savile Row jacket and overcoat. Alice continues to work as a freelance coat maker for several Savile Row companies. For the past 10 years she has been working for firms including Gieves & Hawkes, Alexander McQueen, Huntsman, and Richard Anderson. Her experience ranges from teaching interns and apprentices, to producing bespoke jackets for film and fashion week.
